Creative Community Awards Scheme

In 2016 the Cork County Council launched a new scheme called the Creative Community Awards Scheme. This new scheme demonstrates their commitment to the arts by supporting the development of partnership models of arts activity in each of the eight Municipal District areas. The scheme is providing funding to enable community bodies, creative artists, local arts groups, and others to come together as local partnerships to plan and deliver an arts project that will achieve a significant, sustainable enhancement to cultural and social life in their area.

We are delighted to announce that a project put forward on behalf on The Cork Textiles Network has been approved by the County Council and will receive funding to work with 6 different groups in the community. The theme of our project is "Welcome to My World" with a focus on highlighting how to world is perceived according to the different groups involved in the project. The 6 community groups involved are: St Gabriel's Special School; Marymount Hospice; Headway; Y.M.C.A; The Direct Provision Centre, Kinsale Road; Members of the blind community (NCBI & IGD). The six artists working with these groups include: Emer Fenlon, Anne Kiely, Sarah GEary, Sara O'Hara, Lesley Stothers and Carmel Creaner.

Each artist will run a series of workshops with their respective group. The finished works will be exhibited in the County Hall Gallery space in November 2017. There will also be public workshops in different locations in the municipal district throughout the project. It is intended to use this project to help create future connections with the different groups and the surrounding community.
